Luke & Shannon

Married: 2012

Children already in the home:
Micah, age 3, was adopted as an infant. Micah is an energetic child with a love for all things trucks, trains, big machines and animals. He is very active, adventurous and loves being outside.

Occupations: Luke is a civil engineer, Shannon is a graphic designer for an agriculture technology company.

Education: Luke has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a minor in Math from a state university and is a licensed professional engineer. Shannon has a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Communications.

Where we live: We live in an older quiet neighborhood in a house built in the 1950s. Our house is right across from a large park with easy access to walking paths and numerous parks. We are also in walking distance from the school in our district.

Ethnicity: Luke - German/Austrian Jew; Shannon - German/Russian
; Micah - American Indian

Religious affiliation/practice: We attend a non-denominational church that is a part of the Acts 29 church planting network. The main demographic of the church is young families and college students. Together, we serve a couple times a month on the welcome team. We host a bible study (small group) in our home that meets weekly. We are excited to share our faith with our child and are praying that he/she will know the love of Jesus.

Health: Good health for all.

Child care plan: Shannon will continue to work part-time (3 days a week). On the days she is working, we plan to have our children attend a small home daycare.

School preference: We have a lot of good schools in our community, and we plan to choose public school for our child. We may choose to homeschool if that would be a better fit for his/her needs.

Hobbies/Interests:  As a family, we love to be outside all seasons of the year. We go for a lot of walks, bike rides, and trips to the park. We also like to get away in the summer to camp, hike and just be in nature. Luke enjoys fishing, hunting, golf, watching sports, skiing, and playing racquet sports. Shannon enjoys running, biking, snowboarding, hanging out with friends, cooking and baking, gardening, and graphic design.

Pets: One dog, a German Shorthaired Pointer named Brego.

Dear Expectant Parent(s):

Thank you for taking a little time to get to know us. We want you to know that we are incredibly thankful that you are choosing life for your child. We can’t know what you are going through or the difficulty of your situation, but we respect and admire you, your character, and the decisions you are making.

From the time we started dating, we talked about having a big family and how important that was to us. We always thought that we would start our family biologically; however, after trying unsuccessfully for over a year, we found out that God had different plans for our lives.

We became adoptive parents to Micah in 2018 and are excited to grow our family again through adoption. Micah will be such a great big brother! Our family is passionate about being active and spending time outdoors, and we hope to share that passion with another child. We are excited to teach them sports, to throw a ball, to camp, to ride a bike, and so much more. Our faith and family are the most important things in our lives, and that’s something we will share with our children. Shannon is an awesome mom because of her adventurous spirit, her compassion, and her gentleness. Luke is a great dad because of his playful and goofy personality, his protective care of others, his servant-leader attitude, and his easy-going demeanor.

If you choose us to parent your child, please know that we will always show them how much they are loved. Although we will never be perfect parents, we promise that your child will be in a loving home. We promise you that they will know how much you love them and how brave you are. We promise to always speak of you with the utmost respect, and admiration. You will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we will honor your desires to know, and see your child.

Again, thank you so much for choosing life for your child and the sacrifices that you are making for them. Thank you for taking a little time to  get to know us, we hope to meet you and get to know you. We are and will be praying for you, your child, and your loved ones in the weeks and months to come. You are loved.

God Bless you!

"Starting our family through adoption has taught us so much about unconditional love, and it’s with hopeful anticipation that we look forward to growing our family again! We know that adoption is founded on loss for all members of the triad, we acknowledge and affirm all of the difficult emotions that come with it, and we trust that God will be glorified through this entire process."
